12mo (155 x 80 mm), pp [xiv] 245 [17] with folding chart, folding engraved map, and six woodcuts in text; a fine copy in contemporary vellum. £1750
First edition of this account of a voyage to India, and of the natural history, scientific and medical phenomena observed during the voyage and while in India. It was written by Borghesi (died Canton 1714), physician to the Mission of Cardinal Tournon to China sent by Pope Clement XI, to his teacher Paolo Manfredi during the sojourn the Mission spent in Pondicherry. They had departed in July 1702 and arrived in Pondicherry in November 1703. Borghesi made numerous detailed observatins on the flora and fauna he observed, as well as the different people he encountered.
